You don’t have to scare them with your eyes, use them to convey your opinion and to show how serious you are about the topic.

Remember that you’re talking to breathing people and don’t forget that they have feelings. It’s really hard for most of us but a good conversationalist also knows how to listen and understand what others have to say. Communication is never a one way street, even when you speak you need feedback to see how well has the opposite personality has understood your viewpoint.
